Exploring Stories Through Art.

MONKYI 涵 ART STUDIOS

MonkYi is a Toronto-based Chinese-Canadian visual artist and muralist whose work blends mythology, anthropology, and community storytelling. Drawing from her background in anthropology and Montessori education, she creates vibrant, narrative-rich murals that explore the shared threads of human experience through the lens of cultural identity and imagination. Her practice intertwines research, symbolism, and intuition to celebrate diversity and the spiritual, animistic roots that connect global traditions. Through bold color, layered imagery, and characters inspired by mythology, nature, urban culture, and lived experience, MonkYi reimagines public spaces as reflections of belonging that bridge the modern and the ancestral. Ranging from playful and whimsical to bold and otherworldly, her murals respond to the environment, the community, and the physical shape of each site. She has collaborated with city organizations, public art programs, and local businesses, and has received grants from Canada Council of the Arts and Ontario Council of the Arts. She aims to continue to deepen her exploration of large-scale mural practice and cross-cultural storytelling.
